Invitation to Schools, Societies, and To Whom It May Concern

The Messolonghi Byron Society

We would like to inform you that the Messolonghi Byron Society, except for its rare book collections on Lord Byron's life and works and on other poets and authors, has on permanent display, in collaboration with the Greek Ethnological Society, a number of 19th-century Philhellenic engravings (copies from the collection of the National History Museum). The exhibition is entitled "The Greek Revolution and European Philhellenism" and offers gratuitous educational sessions.

We are happy to welcome in our Center students from schools of the Aitoloakarnania region as well as from other regions in Greece as part of their annual educational trips and excursions, and to acquaint them with our rich historical heritage. The following educational sessions are available:

a) Discovering Messolonghi through its History

b) The Greek Revolution and European Philhellenism

c) Lord Byron, Poet and Philhellene

d) Getting to know the Greek traditional costumes: "Sersigkas, Amalia, Tsolias, Ntoulamas"
This programme is for primary school students only. The Messolonghi Byron Society except the other costumes has in its possession a 19th century genuine "Amalia" costume, worn by Chieftain Kostas Makrikosta's daughter when she was lady-in-waiting to Queen Amalia.

The tours and lessons (for a, b, c programmes) will be given by the philologists Mrs Elena Zavitsanaki (tel. 6938 798043) and Mrs Tzeni Haralambopoulou (tel. 6975 711911).

The programme d will be given by the philologist Mrs Diamanto Liapikou (tel. 6984511436).

The sessions on Lord Byron and Byronism, are organized by the President of the Messolonghi Byron Society.

With Kind Regards,

Mrs Rodanthi-Rosa Florou (tel. 6977 804076)
President, Messolonghi Byron Society
